“How much is marble per square metre in Dubai?” is one of the first questions every homeowner, contractor and designer asks. The honest answer is that two slabs both called “marble” can differ in price many times over. This guide explains what actually decides the price of marble in the UAE, how to compare quotes from different suppliers fairly, and how to keep your stone budget under control without compromising the look.
Why marble prices in Dubai change so often
Most natural stone sold in the UAE is quarried abroad — in Iran, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Greece, India and Brazil — and shipped to the Gulf. That means the price you pay depends on things that move every month: quarry prices, sea freight, exchange rates and how much stock of a particular stone is available locally. This is why serious suppliers rarely publish fixed price lists and instead issue a dated quotation or proforma invoice for each project.
7 factors that decide the price of marble per m²
1. The stone itself and its origin
Widely quarried stones such as Crema Marfil, Crema Uno and grey marbles from Turkey and Iran sit at the accessible end of the market. Rare whites like Calacatta and Statuario, exotic quartzites and onyx sit at the top, because only small quantities of top-quality blocks come out of the quarry each year.
2. Grade and selection
The same stone is sold in different grades. A first-choice or “select” slab has even colour and few natural defects; a commercial grade allows more variation, spots and repairs. Two quotes for “Pietra Grey” can be far apart simply because they are for different grades — always ask which grade is being quoted.
3. Thickness
A 3 cm slab contains about 50% more stone than a 2 cm slab and costs more to cut, lift and transport. Interior floors and wall cladding are usually 2 cm; countertops, steps, pool coping and exterior work often use 3 cm.
4. Finish
Polished is the standard finish for most marble. Honed, leathered, brushed or flamed finishes need extra processing and can add to the cost — but they may be the right choice for slip resistance outdoors or for a soft, matt look indoors.
5. Slabs or cut-to-size
Prices quoted per square metre of slab are not the same as prices for finished, cut-to-size pieces. Cutting, edge profiles, sink and hob cut-outs, book-matching and installation are separate costs. When you compare two offers, check whether you are comparing raw slab with raw slab.
6. Quantity and lot
Larger quantities usually get better prices, and buying a whole lot (all the slabs cut from the same block) guarantees consistent colour across your floor or facade. Small top-ups from a different lot later are often more expensive — and may not match.
7. In stock in the UAE vs imported to order
Stone already sitting in a UAE warehouse can be delivered in days, and you can see it before you pay. Stone imported to order carries freight and lead time — often several weeks — and the price can move between quote and shipment. For tight project schedules, local stock is usually the safer choice.
Costs people forget to include
- Wastage: add roughly 10–15% to your net area for cutting and breakage, more for complex layouts.
- VAT: in the UAE, 5% VAT applies. Check whether each quote is shown with or without it.
- Delivery and offloading: heavy slabs need the right truck and handling on site.
- Fabrication and installation: usually priced separately by the fabricator or fit-out contractor.
- Sealing and adhesives: small items, but they add up on large areas.
How to compare marble quotes from different suppliers
Put every offer into the same simple table before you decide:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact stone name and origin | Different quarries sell similar-looking stones under similar names |
| Grade / selection | The biggest hidden difference between quotes |
| Thickness and finish | 2 cm polished and 3 cm honed are different products |
| Unit: per m² or per slab | Make sure you compare like with like |
| VAT and delivery included? | Can change the total noticeably |
| Stock status and lead time | In stock now or imported in weeks? |
| Photos of the actual lot | Catalogue images are not what you will receive |
| Quote validity | Prices move; know how long the price is held |
5 ways to get more stone for your budget
- Choose stones that are in stock locally. You avoid freight surcharges and delays. Our Signature Stones are kept at our Sharjah warehouse for this reason.
- Use calm, even stones for large floors. A uniform marble like Crema Uno, or beige or silver travertine, covers big areas beautifully at a sensible cost.
- Save the premium stone for the feature. Use a statement marble on one TV wall, island or vanity and a quieter stone everywhere else.
- Order the full quantity at once. One lot, one price, no colour mismatches later.
- Ask for one quote for the whole project. Combining stones in one order usually gives a better overall price than buying piece by piece.
What to send your supplier for an accurate marble price
- Stone name (or a photo of the look you want)
- Area in square metres for each stone
- Thickness and finish
- Project location and when you need the stone on site
- Drawings or a BOQ, if you have them
With Archo Marble you can put all of this into a single quote request — add several stones, set the quantity for each and attach your drawings. Our sales team replies with a proforma invoice at today’s prices, usually within one working day. Prefer to see the stone first? Frequently asked questions
Why don’t marble suppliers in Dubai show prices online?
Because prices depend on grade, thickness, finish, quantity and the lot available, and they change with freight and exchange rates. A dated quote for your exact requirements is more reliable than a list price.
Is marble more expensive than porcelain?
Often, but not always — premium porcelain and sintered stone can cost as much as natural marble. The real difference is in character and lifespan. See our comparison: Porcelain and sintered stone vs natural stone.
How long is a marble quote valid?
It varies by supplier and by stone. Always check the validity date on the quote, especially for stone that has to be imported.
Can I see the slabs before I pay?
With stock held in the UAE, yes. At Archo Marble you can visit our Sharjah warehouse by appointment or ask for photos and videos of the actual slabs before you order.
